People have suggested many ways to improve their bowel or colon health throughout the years. We have "experts" on television constantly advertising their next detox system, diet with chemically "improved" foods to controls carbohydrates and fats, and people selling us on specially made yogurt. The truth is it is entirely possible to improve your digestive system through focusing on a more natural, whole foods diet. With a plan and a few changes, it is possible for anyone to improve their bowel.
One of the first things to focus on is the morning routine. Start by reducing the amount of coffee and soft drinks you need per day. The excess caffeine is something you want to avoid when working on improving your digestive system. Also, replacing these with water will make it easier to stay properly hydrated. And then there are the sugars and fat and artificial sweeteners you will avoid by simply getting rid of the coffee and soft drinks. Two good replacements are water and herbal teas. A warm glass, rather than a cold glass of water, can jump start your digestive system in the morning. And herbal teas are a great source of nutrition and hydration that you can drink in place of coffee throughout the day.
Eat plenty natural, whole foods. That means fruits, vegetables, nuts, healthy oils, and small amounts of good meats. To do this, there will need to be changes. First, bring your lunch to work. Fast food, restaurants, and cafeterias are terrible places to eat when you want to improve your bowel health. Control your food by preparing it yourself. You can bring leftovers as well as fruits and vegetables for snacks to eat throughout the day.
Salads can make great lunches as well. Remember to include healthy oils, avoid processed foods, and limit sugars. This may mean making your own dressing which can be as simple as mixing up your own vinaigrette. Try using 1 part red wine vinegar, and 2 to 3 parts extra virgin olive oil with a pinch of salt and pepper to make your own dressing. Simply keep this separate from the salad until lunch time. You can make the salad more filling by including a little bit of nuts or beans as well as a small portion of low fat, natural cheese.
Dinners can be easy with proper planning. Make the whole foods the focus of the meal. One good way to do this is to start shopping at local farmers' markets. This teaches you to learn what is in season locally. You can use the market to dictate which vegetables you buy. And make plans for the week with those vegetables. That way your meal is not always centered on meat which should mean you can use smaller portions of it or even keep dinner vegetarian.
Eating healthier does not have to be overwhelming. You do not need some TV personality to sell you some colon cleansing system. Just make some simply changes and plan your meals carefully and you can use whole foods to improve your digestive system.
